Market Snapshot
Nationwide home prices rose for the third straight month at an annualized pace of almost 7 percent and home sales rose by the largest monthly increase in 26 years in September according to the Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller home price index. Inventory fell by about 7 % to an eight month supply and stands at the lowest level since March 2007. It seems likely that congress will extend the first time home buyers tax credit until April 30, 2010. Congress may also expand it to include Americans who already own a home and earn as much as $ 225,000 a couple or $ 125,000 for an individual. While all this is great news, many economists are still pessimistic and expect a double dip in prices in the near future as unemployment peaks and the third wave of foreclosures rolls in early 2010. Still, with prices irresistibly low and buyers out there actively looking, we are optimistic about this upcoming season. |
